Ideas
    Clear & focused topic
    Good elaboration
    Strong supporting details

Organization
    Original title that captures the theme of the paper
    Clear introduction drawing the reader into the topic
    Logical sequence of ideas
    Smooth transitions connecting ideas
    Supporting details placed well in the paper
    Good conclusion that gives the reader a sense of closure

Voice
    Strong tone in the writing that engages the reader’s interest
    Writing that reflects the writer’s commitment to the topic
    Personal style that takes a risk to reveal who the writer is

Word Choice
    Words and phrases that catch the reader’s attention
    Nouns, verbs, and modifiers that add life to the paper
    Words that are precise and accurate in meaning
    Words that clarify the sense of the paper

Sentence Fluency
    Smooth sentences that read aloud fluently
    Varying length and structure in sentences
    Use of sentences that clarify ideas and supporting details
    Connecting phrases that build meaning in the paper
    NO run-on sentences or sentence fragments

Conventions
    Correct spelling and capitalization
    Accurate use of punctuation and grammar
    Paragraphing that strengthens the flow of ideas in the paper

Presentation
    Use of word-processing preferably or clear handwriting
    Choice of a font that is easy to read
    Clean and precise formatting of the paper
