Creative Drama
Grade 6 - Period F (Band)
Course Syllabus

WELCOME

Welcome to the Middle School and to your first trimester of drama! I'm so glad you're here!

The name of this course is Creative Drama and those words tell you exactly what we're going to be doing together over the next twelve weeks - creating drama! We will be doing this through daily improvisation activities that are performed in front of your drama class. These improvisations will sometimes build on skills you already have and sometimes introduce new performance skills and methods to you. It is my hope and goal that all our class activities will help to increase both your confidence and ability as a performer. In other words we're going to have FUN, GAIN NEW KNOWLEDGE and GROW as performers all at the same time! How cool is that???

CLASS MEETING TIMES

This course meets during F period two times a week on Wednesdays and Fridays.

ARTS TRIMESTER DATES

You have Speech and Acting during the first arts trimester, which begins on Tuesday, August 28 and ends on Tuesday, November 20.

CURRICULUM EXPECTATIONS

Every 6th grade student in class will be expected to:
  • Complete all homework assignments and turn them in on time.
  • Participate in all class acting improvisation activities.
  • Work cooperatively with classmates in all small group work as you create, write, rehearse, memorize lines, add technical elements, and finally perform your scene for the class
  • Be a supportive and respectful audience member during class performances

GRADED CLASS ASSESSMENTS

Two times during this trimester you will work on a performance that will be graded. These performances are different from your daily non-graded improvisations as you will have more time to work on them, and you will also receive more coaching from Mrs. Ellingboe as you are rehearsing in your small groups. These performances are individually graded using a rubric that we will have discussed in class together.

These two performances are worth 90% of your final class grade.

You will also take one quiz in class on Stage Areas, which is worth 10% of your grade.

CLASS BEHAVIOR EXPECTATIONS

All 6th graders in this class are expected to follow the Middle School HARRT code as our standard of behavior expectations.

You should arrive in class both prepared and on time.

Gum is not allowed in class.

Cell phones, electronic games, etc are also not allowed and will be confiscated if visible.

We're going to have a great trimester together and I can't wait to get to know you better and see the wonderful work you do!

WELCOME!

Mrs. Ellingboe
