Fifth Grade Animated Zorrians
Students at The Blake School use Science Companion as their main science curriculum. The fifth graders in Mrs. Robie's class studied the human body in the fall, using "Human Body in Motion." The students enjoyed a summative activity about Zorrians. The premise of the lesson was to create a creature from the planet Zorrian. The Zorrians each had a unique organ that performed a special and unique function. The organ also was made from at least two different kinds of cells with different functions. The purpose of the lesson was to help students further understand how cells, tissues, organs and organ systems were organized in the body.
The students enjoyed the Zorrian concept and were challenged to design short stories in which their Zorrian was the hero. They then illustrated and animated their stories, including the unique organ and cells, using MicroWorlds EX.
MicroWorlds Assessment Rubric includes-
