Fifth Grade Animated Stories
Fifth grade students at The Blake School study “the sense of a story” while in Writer’s Workshop. They learn to create plots with problems and solutions, to vary their leads and endings with guidance and to ultimately begin to write fiction with building excitement leading to a climax.
During this process students create a 3-5-page short story that they then publish in MicroWorlds. MicroWorlds is the software of choice here because fifth graders have a deep knowledge base in the Logo programming language and can effectively create dynamic animations to accompany their stories.
MicroWorlds Assessment Rubric includes-
Knowledge and use of the Paint Center
Knowledge and use of the Shape Center
Application of Buttons
Logo Programming Vocabulary including writing sub-procedures and stringing commands together
You will need a MicroWorlds plug-in to view the presentations. The latest plug-in may be downloaded from the MicroWorlds Web site in Macintosh and Windows formats.
Enjoy the projects for the 2005-2006 school year!!
