Fifth Grade Animated Second Step Stories
Students at The Blake School use a program titled “Second Step” as part of their social studies curriculum. The fifth grade Second Step program focuses on three areas: empathy training, impulse control and problem solving along with anger management.
The students in Ms. Robie’s fifth grade classroom were given the challenge of creating, illustrating and animating a Second Step story using MicroWorlds programming. During this process each student was given a Second Step card with a specific focus, such as managing frustration or dealing with consequences. The students wrote simple stories illustrating how thoughtful steps can be used to solve many everyday problems. They then illustrated and animated their stories using MicroWorlds software.
MicroWorlds Assessment Rubric includes-
Knowledge and use of the Paint Center
