Global Online Academy: Learning Around the World

There is a lot not to like about most of the new distance learning models that are currently available: poor or little interactions with teachers or peers, materials that were designed for print, and low level assessments. GOA is unique in that it turns this model upside down—exemplary instructors, courses specifically designed to leverage the best in new media tools, small class sizes, and a focus on the interaction between students and the teacher all accomplished with that exceptional quality and rigor we have come to expect from the best schools in the world.

Rand Harrington, PhD
Assistant Head of School

Blake is proud to be a member of the Global Online Academy (GOA), a consortium of schools that connects students from all over the world, bringing them together around a rigorous curriculum taught by top-notch teachers from those same schools, preparing them for interactions and a future world only glimpsed today.

The mission of the Global Online Academy is to replicate in online classrooms the intellectually rigorous programs and excellent teaching that are hallmarks of its member schools; to foster new and effective ways, through best practices in online education, for students to learn; and to promote students’ global awareness and understanding by creating truly diverse, worldwide, online schoolroom communities.

As described on the GOA website:

"Online learning is strengthening schools around the globe. By teaching our students 21st-century learning skills we can prepare them to be global citizens who can communicate with people who have backgrounds different from their own; who can collaborate effectively with peers in other states or even on different continents; who can advocate for their own learning; who can publish their work and ideas in a format that will preserve their work in perpetuity; and who know how to be creative, flexible, proactive learners. Being successful in college and beyond will require each of these skills, but teaching them in a traditional classroom setting is often challenging or not feasible. Online, these skills are taught directly and used regularly."
