What you need to know about the NCAA Eligibility Clearinghouse
Students who are planning to participate in Division I or II athletics must be certified by the NCAA Initial-Eligibility Clearinghouse. Here are few facts you will need to know.
To be declared academically eligible for a Division I college by the NCAA a student must produce proof of the following:
- Graduation from High School
- Successful completion of at least 14 core academic courses:
- 4 years of English.
- 2 years of math, Algebra I or higher.
- 2 years of social studies.
- 2 years of natural or physical science, including at least one laboratory science.
- 1 year of additional: English, math or natural/physical science.
- 3 additional courses from any area above or: foreign language, computer science or non-doctrinal religion/philosophy.
- A grade point average of at least 2.00 on a 4.00 scale and a minimum combined SAT as outlined on the NCAA's Qualifier Index. For example, a cumulative GPA of 2.00 would require a combined SAT of 1010 or the sum of ACT scores totaling 86, a cumulative grade point average of 2.50 would require a combined SAT's of 820 or ACT (sum of scores of 68). Meeting Blake's graduation requirements will more than fulfill the NCAA core (13) course unit requirements.
To be declared academically eligible for a Division II college by the NCAA a student must produce proof of the following:
- Graduation from High School
- Successful completion of at least 16 academic courses. This core curriculum must include:
- 4 years of English.
- 3 years of math, Algebra 1 or higher.
- 2 years of social studies.
- 2 years of natural or physical science, including at least one laboratory science.
- 1 additional courses from among: English, math or science.
- 4 additional courses from among: foreign language, computer science, or philosophy.
- A grade point average of at least 2.00 on a 4.00 scale (the equivalent of a 4.00 on Blake's 10.00 scale), and a minimum combined SAT as outlined on the NCAA's Qualifier Index (a 2.00 would be the same as in Division I.) Meeting Blake's graduation requirements will more than fulfill the NCAA core course unit requirements.
Begin the certification process during the second semester of the junior year. Once you have received your final junior year grades, you may submit your Student Release Form (available in the College Counseling Office) to the NCAA Clearinghouse for certification. Note that some of the forms are to be given to the College Counseling Office for completion. After you have submitted your Student Release Form, contact the appropriate testing agency to request official SAT and ACT official score reports be sent to the Clearinghouse.
